Since very early age. My father started playing with me logical/mathematical games when I was 6 and for me STEM became a game, pleasure, challenge sometimes.
Your organization field and mission
The Mission of the Technical University of Sofia is to meet the needs of society for highly qualified specialists in the engineering profession and the results of the University fundamental and applied research activities to respond to the needs of industry.
Please tell us briefly about your role in the company / at your organization:
Professor in Microelectronics and Dean of the French Faculty of Electronics and Informatics.
Your interest in STEM
Microelectronics is the most inspiring science and the role of a scientist in this area is a great inspiration.
Your studies
Strength was my love to mathematics, algorithms (what is AI in fact), problem solving. Weakness was that after Russian and French schools I wanted first to continue with other languages but I had the Opportunity to continue my education in the highest technologies and to continue learning live long. The threats were the impediments in my early carrier but I could overcome them.
Go ahead! The sciences are for girls! We are more patient, more stable in pursuing our goals and more resistant to challenges.
You at work
There were very few ladies on leading positions at the university but now two vice-rectors are ladies. I am a dean and the deans of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer science and of the Faculty of Economics are also ladies. The number of student girls in electronics is equal the number of boys and in general we have a lot of girls at TUS.
I am most proud of my students.
Same as for the studies.
Your point of view
The technology empowers men and women. It is microelectronics that empowers the society since 1960s. If we speak about the housekeeping and the mothership, the examples are from the baby-phone to the dishwashing machine.
Do it without hesitation! This is the most rapidly developing science and you will be always on the edge of the wave of the technological revolution.
More and more women will work in the sector and will lead the enterprises. Now the good examples are the CEO of Infineon Austria and of Melexis, two of the most important enterprises in microelectronics.
To finish with
Family, children then is the science.
It is not easy to manage men, they do not like it.
Ambitious maybe.
I read, watch theatre, listen concert music, make sports, love scuba diving and travel all around the world.
