Electronic Coast is a technology cluster specializing in sensor technology and microchips. Our mission is to promote innovation, collaboration, and competence development among industry, research institutions, and academia, supporting sustainable technology development.

Please tell us briefly about your role at your organization:

As the CEO of Electronic coast, I oversee the strategic direction and daily operations of our technology cluster. My role involves fostering collaboration between industry and academia, facilitating professional forums to enhance skills and knowledge, and expanding our network to support innovation within sensor technology and microchips.

Your interest in STEM

My interest in STEM was sparked by a curiosity about how technology can solve real-world problems. Over the years, I’ve become increasingly passionate about introducing children and young people to STEM subjects, particularly through hands-on and fun activities.

My first role model was my high school teacher, who never used a single book in her lessons. She embodied the subject – passionate, highly knowledgeable, and with an incredible ability to convey her expertise. I have never learned as much from anyone as I did from her. She inspired me to be just as motivated and engaged in my work, so that I can help bring more women into the technology and STEM fields.

Your studies

Strengths: Having worked for many years before pursuing higher education, I had a clear understanding of what I wanted to study and allocated my time effectively. This focus and life experience gave me an advantage in approaching my studies with purpose.

Weaknesses: Balancing studies with a job and raising three young children was a significant challenge. Studying part-time often meant sacrificing sleep for an extended period, which impacted my energy and focus.

Opportunities: My education provided me with a deeper understanding of my field, expanded my professional network, and equipped me with skills and knowledge directly applicable to my work.

Threats: Time and sleep were constant constraints, and the theoretical nature of studying occasionally clashed with the practical realities of working life. This sometimes led to overly critical views when theory didn’t align with workplace practices

Don’t overcomplicate things. STEM subjects can be challenging, but they provide a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the world. A STEM education opens doors to countless career opportunities, from research to leadership roles, where you can influence both technology and society

You at work

Electronic Coast has several strong examples of initiatives in diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability (DEIS). We actively work towards environmental and social sustainability through projects that support green growth, innovations for a circular economy, and solutions that help companies reduce their climate footprint. At the same time, we focus on providing opportunities for those outside the workforce to gain education and qualifications for roles in the technology industry. This contributes to both social inclusion and bridging the skills gap in the sector. Our commitment demonstrates how we are shaping a sustainable and inclusive future for the technology industry.

I am most proud of serving as a bridge between industry and academia in my current role. The professional teams I facilitate contribute weekly to enhancing expertise and building strong networks within the industry. This collaboration drives innovation and strengthens the foundation for sustainable growth in the sector.

Remember that careers in this sector are not just about technical skills; soft skills like collaboration, communication, and adaptability are equally important. Your point of view

Technology equips women with tools to participate equally in the workforce, create their own innovations, and solve societal challenges. It can break down barriers, improve access to education, and foster inclusive workplaces.

Microelectronics is a rapidly evolving field with endless opportunities for innovation and growth. Focus on developing a strong foundation in problem-solving and analytical thinking, as these skills are essential. Stay curious, keep up with industry trends, and don’t hesitate to explore niche areas that spark your interest. Collaboration is key in this field, so build relationships and leverage diverse perspectives to create impactful solutions

By 2030, I would like to see the microelectronics sector fully embrace DEIS (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Sustainability) as core principles. This includes achieving gender parity in leadership and technical roles, creating accessible career pathways for underrepresented groups, and fostering a culture where diverse perspectives drive innovation. I also envision the industry prioritizing sustainability, with circular economy practices and green technologies becoming standard. Ultimately, I hope the sector becomes a global example of how DEIS can lead to both social progress and economic success.

My future challenges include balancing the continuous demands of staying updated in a rapidly evolving technology sector while fostering meaningful collaborations between industry and academia. As a leader, I aim to ensure that Electronic Coast remains at the forefront of innovation and sustainability, which requires adapting to new trends and addressing skills gaps in the workforce. Additionally, I strive to inspire more women to enter and thrive in the technology field, which involves breaking down barriers and creating inclusive opportunities for growth. Balancing these ambitions with personal development and maintaining work-life harmony will be an ongoing challenge.

By 2030, I hope to still be leading Electronic Coast, but with a significantly larger and more impactful cluster. My vision is for us to have expanded with branches in a few additional locations across Norway, creating a truly national network. I want Electronic Coast to be recognized as the go-to hub where companies, organizations, and individuals can find answers to almost any challenge within sensor technology and microchips. Through our network, we will offer resources, foster partnerships, and provide expertise that drives innovation and growth. My goal is to ensure that Electronic Coast remains a cornerstone of Norway’s technology landscape, connecting ideas, people, and solutions seamlessly.

Design and manufacture of Automatic machines for flexible packaging and assembly processes.

Please tell us briefly about your role in the company / at your organization:

As a shareholder and Board of directors’ member I am engaged in project management and motivation of talents to continue their job in machine building.

Your interest in STEM

Technology and techniques are part of our everyday life. I need to know how to fix things by myself.

I have had brilliant teachers in Math’s, Physics and Chemistry at school, all of them ladies. During the exams I have always been confident in myself in these subjects.

Your studies

  • Strengths: multitasking, good self-organization
  • Weaknesses: accepting a lot of tasks/projects
  • Opportunities: creativity, complexity
  • Threats: the need of deep understanding of the processes

Never give up! Mechanical engineering is a little bit men’s world, but you can succeed if you are ambitious, clever,  thinking girl.

You at work

Organizing summer camps “Young technician, researcher and inventor” for motivation of children to continue their education in STEM.

When someone who studies in a Technical university comes to me and says: “This thing I first heard of and tried during the summer camp, organized by you, when I was a child.”

Do not give up when you face difficulties. Be a team player – the things are very complex (especially in mechatronics) to be solved by one single person. There is a need for a lot of different technical talents and someone to lead them. Be this leader!

Your point of view

Learning by doing empowers you. Everyone can be proud of her/himself when as a result there is something done by her/him.

Let them do it! But as a mechanical engineer I’d rather say: Remember that microelectronics requires machines.

To serve as a rocket for faster peaceful development of the mankind.

Your organization field and mission

We do reverse-engineering of electronic chips to perform chip security assessments against very high-level attacks, but also to extract data from secure chips, for example for digital forensics or to check for backdoors in components at the end of the manufacturing chain. We work with customers who are either chip manufacturers or integrators for security analysis, or forensic police, governments and integrators for data extraction from secure chips.

Please tell us briefly about your role in the company / at your organization:

We are two business partners at the head of the company: Olivier, who works on the technical expertise, and myself, electronics engineer CEO. I run the company, and I am involved in all the business areas (strategy, finance, human resources, customer relations, legal, contracts, etc) with a distant view of the technical side, although I don’t intervene specifically in this field, but rather in a supportive capacity.

Your interest in STEM

I chose this course, because I was good at science. I did some orientation tests in high school, and it turned out that scientific subjects were really one of my strengths. I looked for schools in different fields and there was ISEN in Lille, which offered this course. At that time, there were still schools specialising in electronics and microelectronics, with an engineering course in semiconductor physics, then in chips and chip design. So, I followed that course, which developed my skills and my taste for the field.

It is my business partner, because he has a level of expertise that I haven’t seen anywhere else. He’s recognised as an expert in his field. I’m the CEO, but he’s really the face of the company and he’s the one who carries the technical aspect. What’s very important to me in my career now, as in the past, is to work with people who are really competent and reliable in their field, whatever it may be.

Your studies

They need to have confidence in themselves and know that they can do anything. We live in a man’s world and in the technical field it’s even worse in the sense that we live in a patriarchal world, which means that we women have a certain position. In the smallest things, we don’t have the same place, the same path, the same importance, the same legitimacy, and that’s our position in the world. Things are changing, but we really need to educate our girls in the same way we educate our boys in terms of possibilities and potential. Being a girl or a boy doesn’t change anything, you should be able to do whatever you want. That gives you a great responsibility, but it also gives you great potential and infinite possibilities.

So, what I would say to girls is that if they want to do it, they can do it. Whatever the desire is, you have to let it emerge and you must not be afraid to be yourself and go for it without holding back. You have to persevere and be aware that you may encounter difficulties, the greatest difficulty perhaps being to be aware of them, because when you’re born into a world that works like that, things can seem banal, normal or acceptable.

You at work

As a company director, I look at a male and female candidate in the same way, and it makes absolutely no difference to me whether the person is a man or a woman. I hired a woman who was quite young, who was getting married the following year and who was planning to start a family. That wasn’t a problem for me, it was just a question of organisation. The important thing is the person, their personality, their state of mind and their technical skills, because our business is so specific that there’s no specific training. We don’t get a lot of female candidates, but we’re gender agnostic when it comes to recruitment, management and the way the company operates.

The company has existed for 11 years, our business is difficult, we’ve had failures, we have to create new methods and so on. We’re not in a business where we can sit back and relax with processes in place that work, we have to create new methods all the time. I’m very happy with what we’ve achieved, at the moment, we have a great team with a great dynamic, customers who trust us, who come back and who recognise our expertise. After 11 years, I am proud to have a company that is known worldwide in its field.

Your point of view

In our society, women are mothers, more than men are fathers, and this is an obstacle to women’s careers. So perhaps there’s a technology that could have a positive influence on this aspect? Our working habits have changed in recent years as a result of the health crisis, with the possibility of remote working and meetings. This could perhaps allow women to work in part during their maternity/parental leave.

We’re seeing a decline in microelectronics training. There are hardly any schools in France that specialise in microelectronics anymore. So, we need to reinvest in microelectronics training. Then, beyond microelectronics, we need to raise girls’ awareness of empowerment from an early age. We need to tell them that they can do what they want, that they have no glass ceiling, no constraints, that they are no longer prevented from doing certain things. Today, the cards are dealt according to the rules of patriarchy, because that’s the way it’s been instilled for thousands of years. If we change this so that everyone knows that they can fulfil their potential as individuals, then there is no longer a set path to follow. So, we need to support this change in society, and we need to start at a very early age, because this also involves families who, sometimes without realising it, may be perpetuating limiting models for girls and women.

To finish with

Honesty with oneself and others; working to create value and contribute to society; kindness, in the sense of empathy, because I find that everything works better when you are able to have a kind exchange with others.

I intend to continue with my current business, I intend to persevere, and what I’d like is for us to be talked about in a big way, to have a major impact on society with what we do, even if it’s in the world of microelectronics.

I don’t know, but I’m quite opportunistic in the good sense of the word and I don’t have a career plan. Not everything depends on me and for me to plan what I want to do is like being locked in. I want to be open to all opportunities and make the best of them.
