Your organization field and mission

EUC CERIDES focus revolves around the development, use, and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative methods to measure, assess, manage, and communicate risk, and to analyze, design, and implement decision-making mechanisms and systems. The main areas of focus revolve around two basic pillars; risk and decision science with an application to several horizontal areas such as Security, Cybersecurity, and Telecommunications.

Please tell us briefly about your role in the company / at your organization:

In my role as Senior Research Fellow, I oversee projects related to Security, Telecommunications around Critical Infrastructures. My responsibilities include identifying robust security frameworks, researching on the market needs and how it is aligned with the Cypriot crisis infrastructure and implementing novel technologies on security measures. Through strategic vision, I ensure our efforts on governmental authorities align with the trends of telecommunication industry best practices.

Your interest in STEM

From a young age, my interest in STEM was ignited by a natural curiosity about how things work and a strong desire to solve complex problems. This passion deepened throughout my school years, particularly in physics and mathematics. Engaging teachers and hands-on projects further nurtured this fascination, enabling me to explore various facets of technology and engineering, ultimately leading me to pursue a career in the quantum communication in the satellite communications field.

My initial role model was Ada Lovelace, as a pioneering scientist who has marveled and exemplified the importance of perseverance and creativity in the fields of mathematics and the novelty functions of computing. Today, I draw inspiration from leaders like Eleni Diamanti and Stephanie Wehner who are renowned for their innovative approaches to QKD and Pu Jian who is Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Cailabs.

That following my dream had to be done in a certain way, even though life has incredible possibilities to reach your final goal.

You at work

There are a few things I hold dear. Gaining experience in various work environments has strengthened my resilience and work ethic, enabling me to handle challenging situations and people effectively. However, what I am most proud of is maintaining my focus on what I enjoy the most: working in the field of quantum communications and satellite communications.

Technology can enhance career growth opportunities by enabling women to acquire the essential skills needed to thrive in satellite communications and engineering.

The STEAM field is incredibly exciting, with numerous advancements anticipated that will significantly improve our present and future lives. It’s crucial to recognize and nurture the talent of girls with STEAM skills. Their involvement will not only bring them happiness but also benefit the entire world.

There are increasing opportunities to advance technological solutions for a more sustainable world, such as developing zero-energy systems with energy harvesting technologies.
